El Nino to hang around for longer term
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – It looks like El Nino will hang around a few more months.

The warm water phenomenon evident in the equatorial Pacific has persisted for several months and resulted in California’s winter of above-normal rain and snowfall.

In its latest outlook (issued May 9th), the Climate Prediction Center boosted to 70 percent the chances El Nino will continue through the summer and a 55%-60% chance lingering into this fall.

El Nino could boost the number of storms and hurricanes in the Eastern Pacific this summer.
