Repair of storm-damaged mountain roads improving
HEMET – (INT) – Some mountain-bound motorists are still dealing with the aftermath of the winter storms.
Highway 243 out of Banning on the north side of the San Jacinto Mountains remains closed, but access to Idyllwild via Route 74 is improving.
Pilot vehicles are escorting motorists from Hemet to Mountain Center along Route 74 7-days a week including weekends. Some sections of the roadway are not paved.
Caltrans says it may be June before all state highways in the San Jacinto Mountains will be open without restrictions.
