Jury delivers verdict in double-police killing
INDIO – (INT) – A Riverside County Superior Court jury needed only brief deliberations Monday before convicting John Hernandez Felix of killing two Palm Springs police officers.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the 28-year-old Palm Springs man.

Felix, a gang member with a lengthy criminal record and a hatred for police, was arrested in October 2016 after police responded to a family disturbance at his parent’s home.

Felix fired an assault rifle through a metal screen door after officers asked that he step outside.

Officers Jose ‘Gil’ Vega and Lesley Zerebny were killed and a third officer was wounded.

As a convicted felon, Felix could not own or possess any firearm. A family member had told police that Felix was armed with an unknown weapon.

The jury will now deliberate the penalty phase of Felix’ trial.
