Deputies cleared in 'suicide by cop' case
SAN BERNARDINO _ (INT) - As more officer-involved shootings are coming under closer review, prosecutors are issuing their conclusions and identifying the officers who were involved.

The San Bernardino County DA’s office Tuesday applied the right of self-defense in clearing three sheriff’s deputies of any criminal wrong-doing in a 7-year-old ‘suicide by cop’ case.

The DA announced Tuesday a decision reached in April that deputies Jacob Bailey, Lance Beyerle and Eric Dyberg were legally justified in shooting David Andrew Gaston in Crestline on November 12, 2012.

Gaston, who had been on medication for a mental condition, had shouted to the deputies to ‘Do your job’. Gaston made gestures as if he was armed, but no gun was found. He died of multiple gunshot wounds. (INT)
