Jobs: Downward unemployment trend may be slowing
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Unemployment in Riverside/San Bernardino counties dropped a couple more notches in May to 3.5 percent. That’s the lowest in more than 40 years of record-keeping at the State Employment Development Department (EDD).

The decline that began in February is likely to be reversed this month as teachers and school administrators go on summer break and more students enter the labor force looking for work.

The Inland Empire’s jobless rate is now on-par with that of California and the nation after several years of higher local rates.

The EDD reports gains in healthcare and social assistance accounted for over 91 percent of the job increase the past 12 months in the IE. Non-farm employment increased by 27,600 jobs, or 1.8 percent.
