Holiday fun-seekers firm up travel plans SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Although gasoline taxes are poised to increase July 1st, travelers have their holiday agendas in place and are ready to hit the road.
The Automobile Club of Southern California predicts 3.5 million Southern California residents will travel over Independence Day – an all-time travel record for the holiday for the third straight year. The Auto Club reasons that consumer confidence amid lower unemployment and increased discretionary income are fueling the travel itineraries. Seventy-nine percent of travelers in California are expected to travel by car to their destinations, while 13 percent will fly and eight percent will go by other means, such as a bus, train or cruise.
