Governor Newsom exercises veto authority
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Governor Newsom has vetoed his first bills but signed 39 others.

Those becoming law range from the repatriation of Native Americans, sexual assault and sexual violence prevention training, property taxation, teacher and public employees retirement and the grand theft of farm equipment.

Governor Newsom rejected a bill by Assemblymember Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore) that would have expanded licenses of retired peace officers to carry concealed weapons. Newsom said he wants to strengthen safety protections not expand exemptions.
