Summertime brings rash of officer-involved shootings
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – There’s a growing spike in officer-involved shootings as area law enforcement takes a defensive posture often with deadly results.

Since May 30th, ten armed people have died in confrontations with law enforcement officers in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Among the latest incidents, a Chino Hills man carrying a knife while walking in and out of traffic threatening to kill people ran toward a sheriff’s deputy and was fatally shot.

In Victorville Wednesday, deputies dealt with a man with two guns inside his car threatening citizens. Sheriff's deputy Jason Aria was injured in a confrontation but was expected to make a full recovery. Investigators believe
a ricocheted bullet fragment struck Deputy Aria. The investigation is continuing to determine the origin of the bullet. It wasn't clear if the injured suspect had fired any of his weapons.

In Rancho Mirage, deputies used lethal force on a man exhibiting bizarre behavior when a taser proved ineffective.

In San Jacinto and Ontario there were similar circumstances with armed individuals bent on suicide.

Lawmen who’d responded to domestic violence incidents in Adelanto, Yucca Valley and Lake Hills brought threatening situations to a conclusion with deadly gunfire.
