Pop culture Comic-Con brings surprises to San Diego
SAN DIEGO - Comic-Con’s Hall H got a massive surprise on Thursday when Tom Cruise appeared during Paramount’s panel for “Terminator: Dark Fate” to promote “Top Gun: Maverick.”

The studio also shared the first trailer for the film for fans and also published it online.

Cruise was seen in San Diego in the fall filming on Naval Air Station North Island.

Paramount Pictures brought cast and creators of “Terminator: Dark Fate” to one of the first big Hall H presentations of Comic-Con 2019. With Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and others on stage, director Tim Miller shared that the upcoming film will be rated R.

‘Star Wars’ fans have been desperate for any information on the upcoming “The Rise of Skywalker” and last week, Lucasfilm announced it would be bringing a new Sith trooper to the convention. As the exhibit hall opened on Thursday, the full display of trooper armor caught the eyes of attendees and reporters who shared images on social media.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, City Council member Georgette Gómez and other officials gathered in front of the San Diego Convention Center to kick off Comic-Con. The pop culture event will last through Sunday. (The San Diego Union-Tribune contributed to this story)
