Border Patrol reports steady decline in border apprehensions
SAN DIEGO – (INT) – The Border Patrol says apprehensions of undocumented immigrants along the Mexican border is meeting with success.

An agreement by U.S. and Mexico officials in June called for Mexico to deploy thousands of troops from its newly formed National Guard, approximately 10,000 to its southern border with Guatemala, and about 15,000 to its northern border with the United States.

San Diego Sector has made 51,821 apprehensions as the fiscal year winds down. San Diego Sector experienced the largest number of apprehensions in the month of March with 6,880 arrests. However, there has been a consistent month-to-month decrease since March, with the lowest apprehensions during the month of August for a decrease of about 51 percent.

More than half apprehended this fiscal year are from countries other than Mexico, mostly Central America.
