Diversity rankings: California scores highest It should come as no surprise that California ranks high in several measures of diversity.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across six key categories: socio-economic, cultural, economic, household, religious and political diversity. The Golden State was number 1 in linguistic diversity and number 2 in racial & ethnic diversity, household-type diversity and in household-size diversity. Texas and Hawaii took WalletHub’s runner-up spots. Some U.S. states promote diversity more than others. States scoring the lowest in diversity were West Virginia, Maine and Vermont. The U.S. Census Bureau predicts that by 2044 the U.S. will no longer have a single ethnic majority, currently non-Hispanic whites, and will grow increasingly more diverse in the years to follow.
