Gyrations in local Purchasing Manager’s Index
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – The monthly Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI) has been showing significant up’s and down’s. The most recent was in positive territory.
A summary issued Friday by the Institute of Applied Research at Cal State San Bernardino was up four points fueled mostly by production and new orders. Commodity prices dropped significantly suggesting that inflationary pressures are easing.
“Yet countering this positive information is the fact that Purchasing Managers’ optimism about the state of the local economy for the coming quarter has declined somewhat,” the report stated. Only eleven percent (11%) predicted that the local economy will become stronger in the upcoming months (down from 16%). This is the lowest level of optimism since mid-2016.
