Riverside voters decide city council run-offs
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Voters are bringing some new faces to the majority of the City Council.

Three incumbents chose not to seek re-election and a fourth was turned out of office in Tuesday’s balloting.

Mike Gardner has represented Ward 1 since 2007. But, he was forced into a run-off and will be replaced by nonprofit manager Erin Edwards. Gardner had announced after the June primary he would not continue his re-election campaign, but stayed in the race.

Based on incomplete returns, Ms. Edwards will be joined by Ward 3 councilman-elect Ronaldo Fierro, Gaby Plascencia in Ward 5 and Steve Hemenway in Ward 7.

Winners will serve five years rather than four. Starting in 2024 Riverside will switch to elections held in even-numbered years. That will coincide with statewide elections.

The Registrar of Voters says a final vote tally will not be issued until November 21st.
