BIG BEAR – (INT) – Three members of the same family are safe after falling through the thin ice covering Big Bear Lake.

Retired deputy coroner Dan Cupido, a freelance photographer, reported on Facebook that a mother, father and young daughter walked onto the ice from shore. Their combined weight caused the ice the crack sending them into the freezing water Saturday.

Passers-by quickly called for help and the family was rescued within minutes.

Cupido noted that the family ignored posted signs warning visitors to stay off the ice.
