Victims of Corona Airport plane crash identified
CORONA – (INT) – Two men and two women were board the single-engine plane that crashed and burned Wednesday while attempting a take-off at the Corona Municipal Airport.

The coroner identified the victims late Thursday as Paula Mitchell, 61, of La Mirada; Daniel Rodriguez, 70, of Whittier; Teresa Rodriguez, 61, of Whittier and Joseph Zingali, 85, of Torrance.

Zingali was believed to have been piloting the Bonanza A-36, which he owned.

The aircraft had barely cleared the runway but failed to gain altitude, crashed into a ditch and caught fire.

There was no immediate word on the pilot’s destination.

The victims were badly burned.

The Corona Fire Department tweeted that the crash set a quarter-acre of vegetation on fire and forced closure of the airport. The plane had just taken on 80 gallons of fuel, the department said.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sent investigators to the scene. The NTSB’s finding of probable cause may not be announced for several months.
