Desert earthquake centered near Calico Ghost Town
BARSTOW – (INT) – Thousands of Southern Californians and others as far away as Las Vegas reported feeling a moderate M4.6 earthquake Friday evening.

The 7:03pm jolt was centered near the Calico Ghost Town northeast of Barstow. It was followed by four quick aftershocks within 23 minutes.

There were no initial reports of damage.

The Southern California Seismic Network received reports from five counties extending into the Los Angeles area.

The epicenter was estimated to have been about 2-miles beneath the Mojave Desert.

In March 1997, an M5.4 quake in the same area cracked century-old buildings and a freeway overpass and bottles were tossed off shelves.
