Train engineer aims locomotive at docked hospital ship
LOS ANGELES – (INT) - A case of intentional train wrecking is the latest bizarre incident tied to the coronavirus pandemic.

Train engineer Eduardo Moreno, 44, was charged Wednesday with running a locomotive at full speed off the end of the railroad tracks at the Port of Los Angeles and aiming it at the hospital ship Mercy.

The locomotive crashed through a series of barriers and came to rest about 250 yards from the Mercy which was not damaged. The incident was captured on video and was witnessed by a California Highway Patrol officer who caught Moreno running from the scene.

In later statements, Moreno admitted the incident believing the ship had another purpose related to the COVID-19 pandemic or a government takeover and that he “wanted people to know ‘what’s going on here. Now they will.”'

“Moreno stated that he thought that the U.S.N.S. Mercy was suspicious and did not believe ‘the ship is what they say it’s for,’” according to an affidavit.

An investigation is being led by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Port of Los Angeles Police.
