Forest Service lists cause of Mount R fire
RUNNING SPRINGS – (INT) – Some persons of interest are being sought in connection with the Mount ‘R’ fire in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Authorities say a black Audi sedan with a broken left tail light was seen leaving the point where Friday afternoon’s fire began along City Creek Road, also designated as 1N09.

Target shooters using high powered rifles are blamed for starting the fire.

The fast-moving blaze prompted a short-lived evacuation order and the temporary closure of Route 330.

The Forest Service mounted an air and ground assault and stopped the fire’s advance at 62-acres. It was contained Monday.

Those with information on the vehicle should call the Forest Service at 909-383-5651.

Two more spot fires Saturday brought first responders to Highway 330 and Highland Avenue. One burned 1 acre of light fuels. The second was 3 acres on a slope, moving uphill into the forest.
