Get-Out-The-Count set
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Californians may be living up to their reputation of being the hardest to count in the nation.

The Census Bureau is trying to wrap up the 2020 Census with less than two thirds of California’s households responding, so far.

Since the first enumeration in 1790, completion of the count has been stymied by:

• The diversity of California’s population
• Population and geographic size of the state
• Distrust of the federal government

Starting August 11th, Census workers are making home visits to those in California who have yet to complete the 2020 Census.

It’s estimated that for every person not counted, California will lose $1,000 for 10 years - totaling $10,000 per person in community funds for everyone in the state who doesn’t complete the Census. Other key programs funded include child nutrition programs, community healthcare centers, affordable housing grants, mental health programs, roads and parks.
