Salton Sea epicenter of minor earthquakes
SALTON SEA – (INT) – A series of light earthquakes centered beneath the Salton Sea, California’s largest Lake, rattled the Imperial Valley Monday morning.

The sequence began at 6:34am with an M3.2 temblor near Calipatria and built to an M4.6 shortly before 9am.

Dozens of after shocks have been recorded, but most were too weak to be felt. However, the Southern California Seismic Network received reports that the strongest were noticed as far away as Indio, Big Bear Lake and San Diego.

Seismologists say there is a 68 percent chance the shaking is attributed to the Elmore Ranch fault and not the San Andreas Fault which lies just to the east.

There has been no reported damage.
