DNA match cracks Fontana ‘cold case’ murder of teenage girl
FONTANA – (INT) – Investigators announced Monday they’ve ‘solved’ a 40-year-old ‘cold case’ murder.

Improved DNA technology has led to the arrest of Leonard Nash for the slaying of Michelle Jones who was 18 when her body was found in July 1980 in a grapefruit grove with her dress and panty hose removed and her head covered with dirt.

Earlier this year, items of evidence collected at her autopsy were sent to a DNA lab for processing. Additional items found at the time of Nash’s arrest in Las Vegas were compared and matched the Nash’s DNA.

Nash was arrested September 8th and is awaiting extradition back to San Bernardino County
