Lake Elsinore aims for goal of functional zero for chronic homelessness
LAKE ELSINORE – (INT) - The City of Lake Elsinore has been awarded $3,136,000 to acquire, rehab and operate a former hotel to provide 14 interim transitional housing units for up to 28 residents within 90 days.

Officials say the project will help the city achieve a goal of functional zero for chronic homelessness within the next two years.

Lake Elsinore was named in the first round of awards for Homekey. It’s California’s $600 million program to purchase and rehabilitate housing – including hotels, motels, vacant apartment buildings and other properties – and convert them into permanent, long-term housing for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

The Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) administers Homekey for 10 projects in seven California communities totaling 579 units.
