South El Monte quake not far from 1987 Whittier Narrows jolt
SOUTH EL MONTE – (INT) – There have been only a few minor aftershocks following Friday night’s earthquake centered between South El Monte and Montebello.

Seismologists downgraded its intensity to M4.5 and attributed it to either the East Montebello Fault or the Elsinore or Whittier faults.

The late night jolt was widely felt over parts of six counties. There was no reported damage.

The epicenter was not far from the M5.9 Whittier Narrows Earthquake in 1987 that killed eight people and injured 200 others.
