Storm blasts Southern California, evacuations become mandatory SOUTHLAND – (INT) – A belated winter storm has swooped down on Southern California but should be short-lived ahead of a sunny weekend.
KEY POINTS • Widespread moderate to heavy rain and snow through today as an atmospheric river moves across Southern CA. Flash flooding is possible from the mountains to the coast. • The weekend will be dry and warmer. • Another storm system is possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain and snow amounts appear light at this time. A Flash Flood Watch should be lifted by tonight. Areas of greatest concern are the burn scars around the Apple, El Dorado, Bond, Blue Ridge, Silverado, and Valley fire zones. There’s a Winter Storm Warning in the San Bernardino, San Jacinto and San Gabriel Mountains above 5,000 feet where snowfall could range from 6-30 inches. The storm is living up to predictions as the wettest of the season. The storm is the third in a series to strike the Southland in recent days. Another will bring a chance of showers Tuesday into Wednesday. Story Date: January 29, 2021
