Fontana police break silence on shooting death of suspected burglar
FONTANA – (INT) – The late-night shooting death by police of a suspected burglar inside a portable restroom has been turned over to the county district attorney.
For the first time Thursday, Fontana police gave an account of the February 13th incident in a tract of new homes under construction.
Officers initially had responded to a burglary where they found Daverion Kinard, 29, of Rancho Cucamonga fleeing from inside a nearby home.
When Kinard was found hiding inside the restroom at the construction site, an officer fired a single shot that killed the unarmed Kinard. He was described as felon on Post Release Community Supervision for a previous burglary.
The officer was not named and is on administrative leave.
