Inland reps explain their votes on coronavirus relief package
WASHINGTON – (INT) – The Inland Empire’s representatives in Congress were outspoken on the house vote on the the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

Norma J. Torres (D-Pomona): ““Congress delivered a down payment of COVID relief in December, and today we passed a package that would make it whole”. This is exactly the kind of investment that can help Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties continue their decline in case rates, and allow us to finally emerge from the most restrictive COVID tiers in California.”

Rep. Mark Takano (D-Riverside): “The coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis it has caused have upended our lives and millions of people in Riverside County and across the nation are hurting. By passing the American Rescue Plan, we can help people endure these compounding crises and put our country on a path to recovery.”

Ken Calvert (R-Corona): “Speaker Pelosi’s $1.9 trillion bill is a colossal, unfocused taxpayer splurge on a liberal wish list. Despite the gigantic price tag, the Democrats’ bill doesn’t add up. It doesn’t make sense to send Gov. Newsom and the state of California a $26.3 billion blank check for lost revenues when California is projecting a $15 billion surplus.”

The vote was 219 to 212, with House Democrats pushing the measure over unanimous Republican opposition.
