Desert search for missing woman resumes
BARSTOW--An estimated 120 people will scour the desert this weekend to look for the body of a Barstow woman who was reported missing nearly a month ago.

Family members, friends, church groups and other organizations from Orange County are heading to Helendale to find answers in the mysterious disappearance of Leisa Ann Hurst, 30, a single mother of two who was reported missing January 22nd.

Volunteers, with the help of the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, will survey miles of desert on foot or via ATVs and motorcycles looking for evidence.

A similar search was conducted earlier this month by 175 people armed with handheld radios, but heavy rains cut their efforts short.

Hurst was reported missing after her car was found abandoned in Hesperia with the windows down and the keys in the ignition, said Barstow police.

Hurst was studying to be an elementary school teacher. (Source: Orange County Register)
