Wildfire protection ramped up in Carbon Canyon
CARBON CANYON--Last November’s wildfires roared through picturesque Carbon Canyon which links San Bernardino and Orange counties. But, pro-active efforts of a Fire Safe Council saved most of the 315 homes.

With another fire season at hand, those efforts are being stepped up.

The council has identified a bamboo as the greatest fire hazard in the canyon. A grant is being sought to remove it.

Meantime, goats have been hired to munch through stands of shrubs. Stands of eucalyptus trees are being thinned out.

Grant money will also be used to thin vegetation around the botanical museum.
