Salmonella-laced spices sicken scores SACRAMENTO--Some advice about spicing up your next meal could be worth more than a grain of salt.
State health officials are warning about eating spices processed by the Union International Food Company. Salmonella has been found in white and black pepper products. Thirty-three people have been sickened in California, mostly in 15 counties in the central and northern part of the state. Most had eaten at Asian restaurants. Union International Food has initiated a voluntary recall of several spices. They were packaged under the Lian How brand name. The following products are included in the recall: - White Pepper - Black Pepper - Cayenne Pepper - Paprika - Chopped Onion - Onion Powder - Garlic – Chopped, Minced, Powder, and Granulated - Whole White Pepper - Whole Black Pepper - Curry Powder - Mustard Powder - Wasabi Powder Story Date: April 2, 2009
