Motorists prefer continuous-access carpool lanes
GARDEN GROVE--Support is growing for a switch to continuous-access carpool lanes. Most freeways have designated points to enter or exit the HOV lanes.

The Garden Grove Freeway was the first to experiment with the change, according to Joel Zlotnik at the Orange County Transportation Authority.

“It eliminates the need to cut across several lanes quickly in order to, either, get into the car pool lane or get out of it to access an exit ramp.”

A recent survey by the OCTA found 71 percent believe that continuous-access carpool lanes make freeways safer.

Changes are expected on the 91, 405, 57 and 55 freeways in Orange County.
