Hikers identified, victims of desert heat PALM SPRINGS--Fingerprints have positively identified two men overcome by intense heat while hiking in the mountains above the desert resort.
The coroner identified William Carroll, 65, of Palm Springs and Robert Liebler, 64, of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Liebler was a math professor at Colorado State University. Searchers found their bodies two hours apart at separate locations July 19th. Afternoon temperatures had peaked at 110 degrees. One of the victims was reported missing after telling a group of hikers he was suffering cramps and would return to the main trail. Story Date: July 31, 2009
