A motorcyclist killed when he struck an animal on Route 18 in Pinion Hills has been identified. Arturo Rivera, 39, of Victorville was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene Friday evening (May 1st). (INT)

Burning permits in most of San Bernardino County have been suspended, effective May 1st. Fire officials cite pre-season fire activity, high winds, elevated temperatures, and low fuel moisture. Excluded from the ban are Running Springs, Big Bear, Morongo Valley, Yermo, Daggett and Newberry Springs. The suspension is likely to continue until this fall. (INT)

A hiker died on Saturday (May 2nd) after falling from a fixed-rope portion of a trail, the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team said. Dispatchers received a call about a male hiker who fell from the Mount Wilson Trail, a challenging but popular hike in the San Gabriel Mountains. The 6-mile out-and-back trail takes hikers from Sierra Madre to the peak of Mount Wilson.
