Earthquakes rattle Imperial Valley SALTON SEA--Seismologists are carefully monitoring a series of earthquakes that began last Saturday in the Imperial Valley.
The primary epicenter has been southeast of Bombay Beach near the San Andreas Fault. An M4.8 jolt struck the area Tuesday morning. It was felt throughout the Imperial and Coachella valleys and as far away as the Banning Pass and the San Diego area. No damage has been reported. Other quakes have struck west of Borrego Springs and in southwest Imperial County. There are several smaller faults around the Salton Sea. A geophysicist at UC San Diego said the quakes are “a flashing yellow light” to be prepared for possibly future quakes. Story Date: March 25, 2009
